Hi friends! Thanks for your interest!! This page contains a lot of details so I apologize but please read!
Currently I offer two types of soap-making classes. Here are the details;
1. FUN SOAP MAKING
Option 1: At Martin's Mercantile in Akron, NY, for $75, call to book or enquire 585-447-9529, max 4 per class
Option 2: At YOUR location for $75 each, max 4 people
Option 3: At the Shed (Spring to Fall only): Max 3 people, location 1952 Perry Rd., North Java, NY - $70 a person
This class is you (and your friends) making a batch of soap, for the fun and experience of it - basic soap making knowledge will be provided. I will have the lye water pre-mixed for you. You get to weigh out oils, choose colors, design, fragrance, and additives (oatmeal, goat milk, herb powders, coffee grounds, etc., etc.). With my guidance, you will mix and make a full loaf of soap that you get to take home to cut and keep (one loaf per person). The loaf makes approximately 10 bars (retails at $7 a bar). It's a great experience, and if you bring friends, it's a lot of fun. Class will run for 2 hrs. All materials provided (safety goggles, gloves, aprons - but feel free to bring your own if desired).
You get - the soaps you made yourself, and keep the mold. Returning students bring your old mold and get $10 off!
For the class - DO NOT wear your best clothes in case you spill oils, wear long sleeves and closed-toe shoes if possible.
2. COLD PROCESS SOAP MAKING FOR BEGINNERS ($180 per person)
This is a full on class that lasts about 4-5 hrs. Come to my soap shed (or I can go to your location) and learn everything about basic soap making. After this class, and with further practices and researches on your own time, you will be able to take it to the next level. Whether you want to sell some soaps as a business later or keep making a bunch of soaps for friends and family. The class consists of a theory session (3+ hrs) and a soap making session (1+ hr). Here's what you'll learn;
- Types of soap making methods
- Lye Safety
- Soap Terminology
- Preparation & Equipment
- Oils and Butters
- Colorants
- Fragrance Oils and Essential Oils
- Additives and their benefits
- How to formulate your own recipe
- How to make soap
- Temperature and designs
- Where to buy supplies
- Extra-curricular resources to continue learning on your own
After the theory session, you'll make a batch of soap with included recipe. You take the soap home to cut the next day. I will guide you every step of the way. You choose your colors, design, fragrance, and additives to make a loaf of soap. An additional loaf CAN be made at request and will cost $20 extra for my time and ingredients. Once the class is over, I'm available to help answer your questions and help you troubleshoot some issues for as long as you want.
You get - a beginners manual written by me (PDF will be emailed to you after class), the soaps you made yourself and the mold
For the class - DO NOT wear your best clothes in case you spill oils, wear long sleeves and closed-toe shoes if possible. Bring to class - pen and paper to take notes.
All materials provided (mask, safety goggles, gloves, aprons - but feel free to bring your own if desired).
3. ONLINE CLASS - COLD PROCESS SOAP MAKING FOR BEGINNERS ($160 per person)
This class can be conducted through any online videoing programs such as Zoom, Whatsapp, FB Messenger, FaceTime, etc. We prefer Zoom but will do what's best for you. This class is separated into two sessions. First, you will do a theory session, at a pre-arranged time, that lasts 2.5 - 3 hrs. Then when you are ready (a week or so later hopefully), we will have another class where you make soap hands on (on video) and I guide by watching and mentoring. This second session lasts about an hour. Before the first session starts, I will send you a list of items to purchase to get ready for the hands on session. After this class, and with further practices and researches on your own time, you will be able to take it to the next level. Whether you want to sell some soaps as a business later or keep making a bunch of soaps for friends and family. Here's what you'll learn;

- Extra-curricular resources to continue learning on your own
During the hands on session, you'll make a batch of soap with included recipe. You cut the soap next day and we can discuss your experience. Once class is over, I'm available to help answer your questions and help you troubleshoot some issues for as long as you want.
You get - a beginners manual written by me (PDF will be emailed to you before class)
Bring to class - pen and paper for the theory session and items in the list I sent you for the hands on session.
